What are Placental (PDPA) cells?
PDPA stands for Placental Derived Protein Array. These are highly concentrated growth proteins derived from donated, ethically sourced placental tissue. Placental cells are tiny ‘instruction packets’ containing messaging proteins that ‘tell’ the stem cells in our body to make new healthy cells more rapidly. When introduced into the skin or hair, placental cells direct the stem cells to make new healthy skin and hair and reverse signs of aging. Placental cells are the strongest skin boosters available and can be used in a variety of ways.
How Does PDPA Work?
When Placental cells are introduced into the skin or hair follicles by microneedling or direct injection, they stimulate the body’s own stem cells to regenerate and reverse aging in whichever area they are introduced. This is why they are applied or introduced into the target areas—skin, scalp, under-eyes—often combined with microneedling to increase penetration.
- The placental cells send signals to stem cells to boost collagen, elastin, cell renewal, and blood circulation.
- The result: improved texture, reduced wrinkles, fewer signs of aging, stronger hair, and less hollowness under the eyes.
PDPA Placental Cells are ideal for:
- Skin: fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, dark spots, uneven texture
- Eyes: hollowness, under-eye shadows, tear troughs
- Hair: thinning, weak hair, hair loss prevention
PDPA Placental Cells benefits are:
- Smoother, firmer, more radiant skin
- Reduced creases, softer scars
- Plumper under-eye area
- Fuller, healthier hair growth
Are Placental Cells stronger than Plasma Rich Platelets (PRP) and/ or Exosomes?
Placental cells, plasma rich platelets and exosomes are all microscopic ‘packets of information’ or growth factors that stimulate our skin cells to make new and healthier skin but they vary in the ‘amount’ of stimulation that they provide. Placental cells contain over 300 types of growth factors/ signaling peptides compared to plasma rich platelets and exosomes, which contain anywhere from 20 to 30 types of cells. This significantly greater magnitude of signaling information explains why one treatment with placental cells is equivalent, and in most cases stronger than, 4 to 6 treatments with PRP.
Are Placental cells the same as stem cells?
Placental cells, PRP and exosomes are signaling cells and are not stem cells. Stem cells are simple cells that are plain in nature but have all the genetic information to mature into a certain type of cell, like skin, hair, heart, brain, etc. Stem cells can only do this if they are given the correct ‘guidance’ or signals to do so, and placental cells provide this guidance. Our skin and hair follicles naturally have abundant stem cells because they are programmed to constantly make new skin and hair, but as we age the signals that tell our stem cells to regenerate decrease. This is exactly how introducing placental cells into the skin or hair follicles will drive up regeneration and reversal of aging.
What to expect from a Placental Cell treatment session:
- Treatment typically involves microneedling or injection, depending on the area and desired result.
- Sessions are relatively quick with minimal discomfort. We always numb the treatment area(s).
- Little to no downtime. Mild redness or swelling may occur but resolves quickly.
- Many patients see visible improvements after just one session; results continue improving over weeks.
Who’s a good PDPA candidate?
PDPA is well suited for those who want advanced regeneration—people with:
- Signs of aging (fine lines, wrinkles, sagging)
- Thinning hair or early hair loss
- Hollowness, or dark circles under the eyes
- A desire for fewer treatments with stronger outcomes
Not ideal if you have certain medical conditions (your provider can review during your consultation) or are seeking treatments not suited for protein-based therapies.
