On The Skin Report podcast, Dr. Simran Sethi, an Internal Medicine doctor and Founder of RenewMD medical spas and Skin by Dr. Sethi shares her professional insights on the procedures that she expects to gain popularity this year. Read on to get an early look at the hottest aesthetic treatment trends to pop up among TikToks and beauty blogs in 2023.
Skin Treatments and Aesthetic Procedures
Dr. Sethi performs a variety of aesthetic treatments within her medical spas and has insights into some of the procedures that are most likely to gain momentum in 2023.
Aesthetic procedures and skin treatments can be great options for anyone seeking to achieve a glowing complexion. Skincare professionals use various tools and techniques to replenish, refine and resurface the skin.
Replenishing
Aesthetic treatments that use filler injectables can restore volume within the face or provide additional volume that enhances natural features.
Lip Filler
Last year lip filler injections were a popular treatment option for people looking to add volume to lips, and in 2023, we can expect this trend to stand the test of time.
At RenewMD medical spas, lip fillers are the most requested filler injections, making up as high as 75% of all fillers injected!
While the lip filler treatment is popular amongst women of all ages and skin tones, it is most often requested by women in their early twenties to mid-thirties.
An experienced injector can use Hyaluronic Acid fillers to produce natural-looking results that enhance the patient’s existing features, and most people require one to two syringes of lip filler for optimal results.
According to Dr. Sethi, lip fillers aren’t exiting the spotlight anytime soon. To learn more about lip filler treatments, check out Season 1 Episode 38 of The Skin Report, and stay tuned for new episodes and information on the popular procedure!
Refining
Skin refining treatments help remove imperfections and unwanted features from the skin, revealing a renewed, beautiful surface.
Laser Hair Removal
In 2023, Dr. Sethi expects to see more patients coming in for laser hair removal treatments, as these procedures are becoming more normalized and can be especially helpful for stubborn body hair that is darker and thicker.
Men and women alike seek laser hair removal treatments, as the procedure easily removes unwanted hair, unlike other techniques that can result in adverse skin conditions like keratosis pilaris.
As for people of color, laser hair removal can be an effective way to remove unwanted hair. In addition, thanks to advancements in technology and clinical studies, lasers for hair removal are a safe option for treating melanated skin tones.
Botox Injections
Botox is another trend that Dr. Sethi expects to rise in popularity in 2023. The treatment is used to treat both men and women, and is becoming exceedingly common among younger age groups.
Botox and other Botulinum toxins are commonly injected into the forehead muscles and around the eyes as a preventative treatment for patients looking to avoid the formation of wrinkles. However, they can also relax the muscles in other locations, which can result in slimming the face, defining the jawline, correcting “gummy” smiles, and providing relief from teeth grinding.
Based on Botox’s safety, effectiveness, and ability to produce natural results, Dr. Sethi expects this treatment to continue gaining popularity throughout 2023.
Resurfacing
Smooth, clear skin is always in season, and treatments like skin laser and microneedling can be helpful for skin resurfacing. These procedures can erase acne scars, sun damage, wrinkles, and other skin insults, leaving your complexion smooth, even, and radiant!
In the past few years, Dr. Sethi has noticed more patients requesting micro-needling and laser resurfacing treatments, likely resulting from social media and pop culture. However, these treatments are favorites for achieving fast results with little to no downtime.
Microneedling
Microneedling resurfaces the skin by puncturing it with tiny, sterile needles to stimulate collagen production. This process is called Collagen Induced Therapy and can significantly improve skin texture.
Dr. Sethi frequently uses this minimally invasive procedure to remove mild to moderate acne scars or fine lines, and patients using the treatment for the first time will likely need 3 to 6 sessions spaced a month apart each for optimal results.
Laser Resurfacing
Laser surfacing is another treatment that can induce collagen building for smooth, even results. The process involves using laser energy to deliver a controlled injury to the skin’s deep surface, the dermis. This induces collagen production to repair the skin and can erase moderate to severe scars, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles.
Dr. Sethi recommends the Picosure laser as a laser resurfacing treatment for all skin tones, including darker skin tones. This laser uses vibrational pressure waves, not heat, to deliver a controlled injury that stimulates collagen and breaks excess or abnormal pigment, making it a safe and effective laser for melanated skin.
In 2023, Dr. Sethi predicts that laser resurfacing and micro-needling will increase in popularity. Additionally, she expects to see more patients of younger age groups choosing these resurfacing procedures.
While the true trends of 2023 are still unknown, The Skin Report podcast will continue to provide listeners with insights and expertise on all things skincare. In the meantime, tune in to Season 2, Episode 2 of The Skin Report to learn more about these aesthetic procedures!
