Botox® is the most well known to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles that come from facial movements like frowning and squinting. It is an incredible solution for forehead and frown lines and crow’s feet. Botox It is also an effective treatment to treat excessive sweating, migraines, and various muscular disorders.

What is Botox®?
Botox® is the trade name for Botulinum Toxin Type A. By using extremely small doses of product, physicians can temporarily relax that specific muscles which softens facial lines.

Where is Botox® injected?
Physicians typically treat the areas between the eyebrows (Glabella), forehead, and around the eyes (crow’s feet). Sometimes the mouth and chin area can also be treated to soften lines in those areas.

What can I expect during the treatment?
Typically numbing cream is not needed as ultrafine needles are used to place the product under the skin. There may be minor discomfort during the injections (like getting eyebrows plucked), but no discomfort when leaving the office. When patients leave the office they may have a few small pink bumps where the product was injected. This will fade quickly. Make-up can be applied immediately if necessary.

What are the side effects? How can I prepare for treatment?
The side effects of Botox® are minimal. There is a small chance of a bruise at the site of the injection. Try to avoid baby aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen, and fish oil 7-10 days before and after treatment. You will need to remain upright for at least 3 hours following the procedure and avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of that day only.

Rarely, patients report a mild headache after injection. This responds to over the counter medications like Tylenol and resolves quickly. In clinical trials it is reported that approximately 1% of patients nationwide could develop a slight lowering or drooping of one eyelid (also known as ptosis). This is temporary and will completely resolve.

What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?
IPL devices use multiple wavelengths of light to treat sun-induced changes on the face, including brown pigmentation, age spots and broken blood vessels. IPL is also used to treat the facial changes of rosacea, including redness and broken blood vessels. IPL may be used for these changes on the hands, neck and chest as well. It is safe, non-invasive and is tailored to the individual patient’s skin.

Is IPL painful?
When the pulses of light are applied to the skin, patients feel some stinging, similar in sensation to the snapping of a small rubber band against the skin. We therefore have our patients apply an anesthetic cream to the area at home or in the office 30-60 minutes prior to the procedure.

How is IPL performed?
The treatment area is cleansed. A cool gel is applied to the area being treated. Dark glasses are worn to protect the patient’s eyes from the light. With the patient in a comfortable, relaxed position, the IPL handpiece is gently applied to the skin and light pulses are applied.

Treatments usually take approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on which area is being treated.

How many treatments will I need?
In general patients have a series of three to six treatments, approximately one month apart.

How will I look after each treatment?
Most patients experience a few days of redness and possible pinpoint bruising after the IPL procedure. Some brown spots may appear darker for a few days, then peel off. You can apply makeup immediately after IPL treatment if necessary.

What is my skincare before and after IPL treatment?
It is imperative that the area being treated is not tan the day of the procedure. Other areas on the body can be tan but not the treatment site. Afterwards, it is important to protect your skin from the sun using a sunscreen daily. You should use a sensitive skin cleanser and moisturizer for about a week, then you can resume your normal skin care routine.

How long does the improvement in the skin last?
We like to say, you ‘turn the clock back’ with this type of procedure, but the clock keeps ticking! Most people complete a series monthly treatments and then return for a maintenance treatment once or twice a year.

Micro-needling creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin at various depths to aid in the production of collagen and elastin. The skin responds with its own repair process which results in a thicker epidermis with a softer appearance of wrinkles, improved skin tone, pore size and acne scars. Results are further enhanced as the micro-channels created allow our topical blend of plant-derived stem cells, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid to absorb into the deeper layers of the skin.

Alternatively, microneedling can be performed using Plasma Rich Platelets (PRP) to deliver even more potent results. PRP is a concentration of platelets from your own blood that aid in tissue regeneration. Platelet rich plasma activates skin tissue repair, collagen and elastin production for beautiful, youthful results. PRP also addresses under-eye puffiness and dark circles to deliver a more rested and youthful appearance.
