PUT YOUR BEST FACE FORWARD: The Ultimate Beauty Timeline for Your Wedding Day!

Your wedding day is THE day when all eyes are on you, literally. However, there are a few  “Uh, Oh!” moments some brides go through, ie: the moment when they realize they overlooked the beauty part of planning.

Why is skin so important to address months before your wedding? Because skin is personal. It moves with you and adapts with you. It is the direct recipient of whatever life throughs at it, and depending on your circumstances or concerns, your skin will need time to rejuvenate, and ultimately, be flawless.

What is the best timeline for skin on the big day? The ideal time to start working on getting your skin ‘wedding-flawless’ depends on individual goals and what you’re skin is experiencing currently.

Starting as early as six months gives you ample time to complete a series of skin rejuvenation and tightening procedures for optimal results. Here is a tried-and-true summary of procedures for brides-to-be (and her loved ones):

Picosure Laser (6 Months Before)

This top-of-the-line laser is by far the most popular skin retexturing treatment we do it RenewMD for a number of reasons. First, it stimulates your skin’s deepest layer, the dermis, to promote collagen production. With each treatment, there is approximately 25% new collagen growth, revealing brighter, clearer and smoother skin. Picosure is an excellent option for significant reduction of acne scars, wrinkles, dark spots and large pores. Additionally, it’s the only laser skin technology that is safe for ALL skin types (an important factor as many lasers are contraindicated in darker skin types.) It also  has the added bonus of having little to no downtime, leaving skin just a little pink for a few hours after treatment! Results are optimal if Picosure is done in a series of 4-6 treatments, each one month apart.

Microneedling (4-6 Months Before)

Microneedling eliminates dark spots, wrinkles, large pores and stretch marks by stimulating collagen production much like Picosure laser does. Microneedling, however, is a better option for dark spots related to melasma and stretch marks. I frequently combine microneedling with Plasma Rich Platelet (PRP) therapy (aka the ‘vampire facial’) for individuals experiencing dense skin discoloration or acne scars. Microneedling is also performed in a series of six monthly treatments, each one month apart. Microneedling involves making microscopic channels into the skin using a motorized needling device. The skin is thoroughly numbed with a topical anesthetic cream before the treatment, which makes the procedure painless.

Ultherapy (5 Months Before)

While Picosure laser and Microneedling specifically treat skin, Ultherapy works deeper to target muscle tissue, an incredible treatment for muscle and skin TIGHTENING, LIFTING and SCULPTING, because of this, Ultherapy is commonly referred to as a ‘non-invasive face lift.’ This treatment can be performed on the face, neck and chest to reverse muscle and skin laxity and reduce jowls, sagging skin and diminished collagen. In order for the muscles and skin to re-model, results are gradual and take up to three months, an effective and safe standard for most treatments involving sculpting and tightening.

Injectables (2-3 Months Before)

Injections of Hyaluronic acid fillers are so popular for special occasions because the results are instantaneous, and there is very little if not, no downtime. Fillers ‘fill’ areas where there is a loss of volume. They are frequently injected in cheeks to add volume and contour the face in deep folds around the mouth and nose, and also to enhance lip volume and shape. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in our body so adverse reactions to filler injections are rare. However, it is important to not only choose a provider with filler injection experience, but one who you have a rapport with and who understands your goals. I advise my patients to consider filler injections a 2-3 months before their big day, allowing ample time for them to get used to their new look or make any adjustments! Skin is skin. We all have it, and how we treat it and address its needs is constantly evolving. Brides-to-be are legitimately busy people, and incredibly overwhelmed with so much planning detail, that they forget who and what this day is really about – them (and everlasting love). Don’t rush your skin, plan ahead, and bring your partner, friends and family to join you in your beauty journey for your big day!
